What is the Rory Gilmore Reading Challenge?

Have you every loved a show so much that you watched it at least 20 times? No? Then I guess it’s just me. Gilmore Girls definitely falls into the watching it again and again category. It’s one of my favorite shows. In fact, as I write this I’m watching episode 6.9 The Prodigal Daughter Returns. If you’ve watched all the shows at least once then the show title says it all.

So who is Rory Gilmore? As the Gilmore Girls begins she is a sophomore in high school. The daughter of a single mom. Kind of a nerd, but only because she doesn’t care what others think about her. She is super smart and is admitted to a college prep school and later received offers to Yale and Harvard. Most of all she loves to read. I mean she Loves. To. Read. She is always carrying a book with her. She even has one in her purse when she goes to prom. A lot of books are referenced on the show, especially by Rory but by other GG characters as well. Because of this it only makes sense that a Reading Challenge has been around for years.

The Gilmore Girls Reading Challenge is unlike most reading challenges that you might do. Its a more go at your own pace. There are a lot of books and some of them you may be able to check off because you’ve already read them. After all, some of them are added because Rory read them at school so you might have also.

I’m going to break the books down by season. There’s 339 titles in just the original seven seasons. Then there’s the mini-season with the additional four episodes that came later. And there was even more books that she reads in those episodes.

So sit back. Pick up a book. And “call my name and I’ll be there on the next train.”
